Jeffrey Grimyser

Oyster River Pages: Why do you write and/or create?

Jeffrey Grimyser: To express things I'm unable to with my relationships. And sometimes it's because I sympathize or feel something in others and I want to understand but I know because of my demographic and life that I never will.

ORP: What is the most challenging aspect of your artistic process?

JG: Reading something you tried really hard and realizing it's crap.

ORP: What books have you read more than once in your life?

JG: The Great Gatsby. The Old Man and the Sea. All the Pretty Horses. Several Alice Munro short stories.

ORP: What does vulnerability mean to you as an artist and/or writer?

JG: Being honest. Vulnerability means you're exposed, and the things we hide are parts of ourselves that are in pain. The vulnerability to a reader means you're being honest about that pain.
