Cashay is an artist based in Charlotte, North Carolina, whose practice centers on textiles and fiber-based processes. She earned her Master of Fine Arts from Kent State University, where she concentrated in textiles. Cashay’s work explores the cultural, spiritual, and aesthetic significance of Black hair, using it as a lens to examine identity, memory, and lineage. Through weaving, abstraction, and material experimentation, she creates forms that reflect the rhythms, rituals, and complexities of Black life. Her practice is deeply informed by the textures and traditions of Black culture, transforming everyday references into immersive, meditative works. By engaging both technical skill and conceptual depth, Cashay’s work invites viewers to consider the connections between the body, spirit, and material. Her pieces function as sites of protection, celebration, and reflection, honoring the resilience and beauty embedded within Black experiences.
