A Gathering of Poets (Registration Open)

Online through Google Meet

Sunday, July 12, 8:00–9:30 pm EDT

Free to attend — Sliding scale donation optional

Writing is often a solitary practice where we spend long stretches of time traveling alone on our unique creative paths. Yet, poetry began as a way of sharing our hopes, despairs, and insights with each other. As the world’s oldest form of literature, poetry first emerged as oral storytelling, long before the written page ever came into existence.

In honor of this ancient tradition, Oyster River Pages will bring together editors and contributors for an evening of live poetry readings. Poets from our most recent annual issues will read their poetry, creating space for connection and conversation, nurturing our collective human experience in this increasingly digital modern world.

Register for A Gathering of Poets.

National Geographic Explorer and Penguin Random House author Thammika Songkaeo interrogates the mental barriers we face when shaping stories about ‘the environment’ from our own homes.

Challenging the notion that environmental writing must follow a set template, this 2-part course asks: How have we been conditioned to view nature through a pre-packaged lens? What inherited assumptions are we unknowingly recycling, and how can we become engaged environmental writers from anywhere in the world? By challenging biased perspectives, we can learn to write genuinely about our environment as it undergoes a radical transformation—reflecting our true relationship with our ecosystem, no matter where we live.

Registration opens in July.
