The Dance II

Erin Masarjian

I have been making art for nearly my entire life. Lately, my work has been taking on a new look as I have been working with second hand items and found materials. This helps with my mental health issues as well as my creative issues. I used a beautiful scar for “The Dance II”. The material was very fragile and it started to rip and fade, but the artwork in the scarf itself was so inspiring that I did not want to throw it away. I needed to apply it to the canvas and allow the magic to happen.

Art is making magic from things in the everyday world and elevating them beyond the ordinary. Joy reminds me of the endless possibilities and gives me hope for the future. My work is somewhat multilayered, and I hope to continue to improve my craft. I struggle a lot with mental health issues and I use my art as a way to express or release my frustrations, sadness, happiness and joy to the world. I am divorced and when my grandfather and great aunt passed away, I took my mothers maiden name to honor my family. They always encouraged me to pursue the arts.
